Well what a strange o' day! With winter storm Darcy forecast to bring high winds and driving snow to the London area. I was due in work (at Heathrow) in the afternoon and decided to get up early and make my way to Heathrow with plenty of time anticipating the bad weather. However it amounted to nothing at Heathrow other than absolutely freezing temperatures and bitterly cold, strong northerly wind with a few flurries of snow, but nothing to cause any drama or disruption.
With that in mind and me having a few hours to kill I decided to do some filming in the freezing windy conditions.
LHR is currently down to single runway operation due to the pandemic and hugely reduced number of traffic, so all arrivals and departures on this day were on RWY09R. I did my best to film, however it is shaky in places as the wind was literally blowing me over and lifting my tripod of the ground.
Temperature was 1 degree C, wind was steady at 13kts gusting to 25kts from the North, a direct crosswind to Heathrow's runways and wind chill "feels like" temperature was -7!

Check out that whack paint job on the United 777 at 9:28... certainly doesn’t say much for United. Imagine looking out the terminal window at that. Sort it out United! Looks embarrassing.

Bare in mind that the majority of these flights are operating for Cargo purposes! Even on passenger aircraft. With very few if any passengers on them at all! Note several BA 787's on shorthaul flights to Germany & Moscow for cargo capacity and note some flights have unusual flight numbers these are usually specific cargo flights. People are not arriving and departing the UK for a jolly before anyone starts leaving stupid comments. Please also remember airlines like BA with other One World & IAG carriers as well as Virgin with SkyTeam Air France & KLM offer a global network, where passengers can use their services and just transit through Heathrow. Passengers can still legally transit through Heathrow to/from other countries. Remember where everything you consume comes from, it doesn't arrive here by fairy dust. These flights are carrying everything, from letters & parcels to electronics to food & drink and of course transporting vital PPE and vaccinations all over the world! Heathrow is one of the biggest global hubs.
