Protesters Demonstrate Outside SpaceX Starbase as Company Prepares for Highly Anticipated IPO

Protesters gathered outside SpaceX's Starbase facility in South Texas on April 21, 2026, as the company hosted Wall Street analysts ahead of a highly anticipated initial public offering. Environmental activists and local residents demonstrated against SpaceX's alleged pollution, beach devastation, and community disruption caused by years of rocket launches. Demonstrator Jeff Ordower urged investors to reconsider backing the IPO, citing environmental and safety concerns. Not all present opposed the company, however, with SpaceX supporter Lesley Baron expressing backing for the company's long-term space exploration mission. SpaceX has operated from Starbase since 2019, using the South Texas site as the manufacturing and launch hub for its Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy Booster rocket program.
