This was a custom rug for my cousin Amore, featuring hibiscus flowers, a blue butterfly, and her name! This was my first time doing a rug that required SOOO much detail, so the process was a little bit different and required special attention with shearing and some hand-punching here and there.

My technique for finishing the edges of the rugs was one of my simpler ways to do it (hot gluing all of the edges), but there are many other ways to bind a rug that I will talk about in a video soon!

The material I use for the backing is just a thick felt that I buy by the yard at my local fabric shop, but you can use whatever you want! I knew this piece was ultimately going to be hanging on a wall rather than used as a rug, so that's why I picked a thick felt material.
There are special backing fabrics that are made for rugs specifically, and usually consist of a grid-like pattern made for gripping.
That's also why I used Elmer's glue as an adhesive. Using thick, heavy carpet adhesive isn't necessary if your piece is going to end up hanging on a wall (rather than getting stepped on and needing to be washed often). Carpet adhesive is also rather expensive, so if your piece is going to hang on a wall, I suggest using something less heavy duty. If you're making a rug to be used AS A RUG, I would definitely recommend using carpet adhesive. It's very strong and durable and will hold up in the wash. I will link my favorite carpet adhesive below.

If you guys have any questions or comments about technique, materials, or anything at all, feel free to drop some comments below!!

As I mentioned, I'll be making a video showing you guys how I made my 6’x6’ ADJUSTABLE tufting frame. This is how I use ALL of my material and nothing goes to waste.. cause lets be real, tufting materials can be expensive! So I really try to get the most out of all my materials.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!
