Air to Water Heat Pump Summit: Part One: Basics

On May 23, 2019, MassCEC hosted a workshop on air-to-water heat pumps and their potential applications in Massachusetts. This recording is the first session of that workshop. The second session (a more in-depth dive for HVAC professionals) is available as a separate recording: https://youtu.be/5bcwQqBLbkg.

This session was designed for contractors, architects, engineers, program administrators, or anyone not yet familiar with air-to-water heat pump systems. The presentation covers how modern air-to-water heat pump operate and the benefits they offer, including comparisons with other heat pump options such as ductless mini splits and geothermal heat pumps. There is be an overview of the global market for air-to-water heat pumps, and discussion of why the market for these heat pumps is poised for growth in North America. If you’re involved with energy efficiency, low energy buildings, or hydronic heating systems, you’ll see how air-to-water heat pump systems will provide you with new options and new opportunities.

About the instructor: John Siegenthaler, P.E., is a mechanical engineering graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a licensed professional engineer, and Professor Emeritus of Engineering Technology at Mohawk Valley Community College. “Siggy” has over 40 years of experience in designing modern hydronic heating systems, including those using air-to-water heat pumps. He has authored two textbooks, and worked with several organizations including MASS CEC, NYSERDA, Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, Efficiency Vermont, and several manufacturers.
