CONTENTMENT IN MARRIAGE 2
Philippians 4:11-13
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Paul knew the full range of human experience and he says, “In every circumstance, I have learned to be content.” Contentment is grace learned over time.
The implication of the word 'learned' is that it was not always like this for Paul. He grew in contentment over time.
Contentment can help you distinguish between wants and needs. When you are content, you may not desire for anything more than what you need. The abundance of the present is enough to lead a happy and healthy life. Contentment often leads to the realization that joy doesn't come from material things.
Not contented can dampen the joy or peace in a marriage. It can disrupt views of each other, and the trust in God.“Contentment is the outcome of supernatural empowerment from God. Contentment means being satisfied with God’s plan for our lives in all ramifications.
contentment can keep your love together if you concentrate on the things that are amazing about your spouse.
There are great gains in being contented in marriage-
(1 Timothy 6:6)-Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
To be content simply means to be mentally and emotionally satisfied with the way things are, knowing well that God can transform our circumstances for better. Someone who is content is willing to accept the current circumstances with peace of mind.
Contentment makes us more appreciative of others. Contentment allows us to love our spouses just for who they are. Hence, enriching our relationships with trust.
Biblical contentment is a conviction that Christ's power, purpose and provision are sufficient for every circumstance.
