"Roswell Rod" Ed Roth Tribute | 1934 Airflow Chevyflow | '57 Ford Ranchero | Leadsled Spectacular

This week Dennis and the crew head to Salina Kansas for the Leadsled Spectacular, and spectacular it is with the likes of a "Roswell Rod" Ed Roth tribute car, a '57 Ford Ranchero, a '34 Desoto Airflow, a Ford Falcon Wagon, and a '50 Buick Custom. This show really is a mecca for customizers and there is some wild rolling sculptures here.
The "Roswell Rod" Ed Roth Tribute is exactly what you picture in the name. Bubble top of course, skewed proportions melting into interesting, hand formed fiberglass molds and curves everywhere, loud period graphics and color choices, and topped of with an equally cartoonish amount of power sticking out the top. And as with any Ed Roth car it's truly an original, one of a kind rod that while you want to show it off any time you can, you also want to put it away for safe keeping. What a looker. Such detail. True to form. Equally true to the theme of the day is a '57 Ranchero you could fall in love with. So much has been done, both in your face like the extended fenders with almost batwing points and the scallops tracing each body line, to more subtle accents like the skulls in the center point of the taillights. All the period tricks, the cobwebbing, the Buick vent-a-ports on the hood, striping, everything fits and works, including the impala dash. A super clean custom, as is the '34 Desoto Airflow (front half) Chevy (back half). It's a Chevyflow! Someone did it. Someone actually cut into that grill giving it more of a jag look, but they made it work, bringing forward the nose and molding near the lights to meet it. Keeping with the flow name, the stock fenders were then extended to meet with the rear, rising and falling with the body. Long as it looks, it's only a two passenger, with luxury taking up the rest of the interior. For as much gleam as this baby has, it's a driver. And why would you not drive this sexy tangerine? Something a little less in your face, yet somehow equally eye-turning is this seemingly Falcon Wagon that causes double takes. Clad in black with regal maroon scalloped panels and subtle flames, the roof is where it pops. Intricate lacework and beyond, it invokes that 60's Larry Watson style. Setting of the deep colors of the outside is a very bright inside with black piping accentuating the lines and breaking everything up. Finishing out the show is a car finished up as nice as the rest, a '50 Buick Custom. Once a $150 dollar car, now shaved and slippery all over, this baby glides down the road. The impala hard top might throw you for a loop though, and as a great fastback anyway, it molds right in there. And here again, every detail coordinated and clean.
The Leadsled Spectacular. A show made up entirely of customs and each one done with a level of craftsmanship and care given only to the finest of vehicles. Creativity and skill on display everywhere.
