In this lecture, we begin study of the great early Existentialist philosopher and writer Soren Kierkegaard, by working through several main themes of his essay "The Present Age. We look in particular at his understanding of what for him was the Present Age -- in relation to its past -- and we ask whether the conditions he criticizes are also characteristic of the present age we inhabit.
