Lawyers representing actress Scarlett Johansson have contacted OpenAI to question how it is that the firm's new GPT-4o chatbot's voice bears a close resemblance to the Hollywood star's.
Johansson said Monday that the chatbot, which has been called 'Sky', sounded "eerily similar" to her, even though she declined an offer from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last September to use her voice.
She added that Altman "insinuated that the similarity was intentional" in a social media post referencing Johansson's 2013 movie "her", in which she plays the voice of an AI assistant.
Altman told Reuters that Sky's voice belonged to a different professional actress, and was not an imitation of Johansson.
The AI company said it would no longer use the voice for undisclosed reasons.
