Spinning Blue Circle Next to Mouse Pointer Windows 11 | SOLVED
The spinning blue circle (busy / “working in background”) next to the mouse pointer in Windows 11 usually means the system thinks it’s busy, but it’s often just a cosmetic glitch or a hung background process.
1. Hide the spinning circle (quick cosmetic fix)
If performance is fine but the circle is annoying, you can swap the “working in background” pointer for a normal arrow.
Press Win + R, type main.cpl, hit Enter to open Mouse Properties.
Go to the Pointers tab.
Find the entry labeled Working in background (and optionally Busy).
Click Browse, select the Normal Select arrow (usually the first option), click Open → Apply → OK.
This hides the blue circle without fixing the root cause, but it removes the visual annoyance.
2. Check for stuck processes
A permanently spinning circle often traces back to a single app or service using a lot of CPU or stuck in a loop.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Sort by CPU or Memory and look for any process that is consistently high.
If you find a culprit (for example Spooler SubSystem App, an Office app, or a browser tab), right‑click and End task, then check if the blue circle stops.
You can also restart Windows Explorer from Task Manager → Processes → right‑click Windows Explorer → Restart.
3. Disable “Show location of pointer when I press Ctrl”
Windows sometimes triggers the busy cursor when this feature is enabled and keys are being pressed.
In Mouse Properties → Pointer Options tab.
Uncheck Show location of pointer when I press the Ctrl key.
Click Apply → OK and reboot to test.
4. Update drivers and check for Windows issues
On some Windows 11 builds updates or drivers can cause the cursor to flicker into the busy state too often.
Update your mouse / touchpad driver via Device Manager.
Run a quick system‑health check:
Open Command Prompt as admin and run:
sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
5. Disable animation or background tasks that aggravate the circle
Some users see the busy cursor or spinning‑circle‑in‑lock‑screen more often after feature updates.
In Settings → Accessibility → Visual effects, you can:
Turn off Animation effects or Reduce motion to lessen visual glitches around the spinning circle.
In Task Manager, after an update, check for:
Stuck services (e.g., spooler, Office apps, backup tools) that can make the mouse cursor show the spinning circle continuously.
End or restart the culprit process, then reboot to see if the circle stops.
