I am taking this opportunity to wish all my Youtube followers/subscribers, friends, FB pals and tweeters a very Happy and relaxed festive Christmas.

Restoration project on a vintage Crown and Sword straight razor.

Just to give some background on this straight razor.

When i received this razor, it was completely black with rust. The cutting edge was full of "nibbles" where rust had eaten away the metal. The rounded point of the blade was extremely damaged by chips to the metal.

However, Crown and Sword (ERN Solingen) are a really great razor maker and would be a great shame to bin it without trying to restore what could be a great razor.

I invested in some new equipment to grind the rust away. Then i cut the round point completely off and re-shaped the toe into a Barbers Notch. From there i re-ground the edge of the blade to completely flatten the edge and re-set the bevel.

The next stage was to polish and refine both sides of the blade with a diamond paste.

The final stage was to hone the cutting edge of the blade up to a shave ready condition, then shave test it on my youtube channel.

End result of this restoration project is a very comfortable, forgiving straight razor that has a new lease of life for at least the next 60 years or longer.

Cosmetically, it is not perfect. There are still some tiny water marks that are too deep to remove, but there it is. A nice heavy 53g of quality Solingen steel.
