Hirschsprung Disease, Colitis, and Fecal Incontinence

Hirschsprung’s disease occurs when a baby is born without enough nerve cells, called ganglion cells, in their intestines and can’t pass stool on their own. This can cause severe constipation and inflammation, known as colitis, and must be fixed by surgery. Learn how our experts at Children’s Hospital Colorado diagnose and treat patients with Hirschsprung’s disease, and how our surgeons can restore bowel control while avoiding complications such as fecal incontinence.
