Why Study The Early Eucharist with Tom O'Loughlin

Prof. Thomas O'Loughlin discusses the place of the meal -- later, in the second century called 'The Eucharist' -- among the early communities of Christians. There is an irony in any discussion of Eucharist among modern Christians. On the one hand, they all assert that the Eucharist is the celebration of unity; but on the other hand, there is nothing upon which they are more divided in their opinions! Many of these bitter disputes can be out in context by looking at the evidence we have for the role of Eucharistic meal in the earliest communities.
