From 1025 to 1092, Byzantium was caught in a gradual then rapid decline; losing Anatolia and Italy, suffering a military collapse, and slogging through several civil wars which brought the Empire to the brink of collapse. So, how did this come to be? This episode covers the events from 1025 to 1056 - Part 2 will cover 1056 to 1095.
