My Girl

Ella

One year ago today on Monday 2/15/2021 I had to say goodbye to my sweet Ella girl. This was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. She passed peacefully as I caressed her sweet head and told her how much I loved her.

Ella was not just a pet or dog. She was family, my girl. She was my greeting every single morning with the wag of her tail, she always made me smile and we would have morning cuddles.
She was my company whether I was cooking or gardening, my comfort when I was sad, the last one I would kiss goodnight (besides my husband). She was always there for almost 11yrs...
She would’ve turned 11 in April.

I was so close to my girl. We went through so much change together throughout the years. So many memories and stories with Ella.
She became Malcolm’s baby too ever since they met. She would get so excited when he was about to go work in the garage on his car. She just knew what he was about to go do. She would get to lay on her outdoor blanket and keep him company. That’s only one example of how she was a part of our daily routine. At dinner there’s an empty spot by our feet where she always liked to lay. We called her our foot rest. She was also called my shadow, she would follow me wherever I went. She would greet me whenever I walked in the door, so excited like she hadn’t seen me in months.
Ella was such a sweet, joyful presence we always had in the house.
Now the house feels so empty without her and the heartache of missing her is so overwhelming.

Ella was laid to rest at a beautiful memorial garden on Wednesday 2/17/21 where we said our final goodbyes. I hadn’t planned on what I would do when this day would come because I didn’t ever want it to come. I didn’t want to have even a second of it on my thoughts.
I’m at peace with the decision I had to make so quickly though.
I couldn’t have asked for a better place for her to rest.
