Johnny vs. Super Mario Sunshine

I haven't played this one in over a decade. Am I coming back to something that's truly a treasure? Or is there a reason for the spacious time gap? Super Mario Sunshine is the 2002 sequel to revolutionary Super Mario 64. No pressure or anything, but does Sunshine offer something that the N64 classic could not besides better graphics?
