This was Supposed to be a Simple Build

As with any project, this one definitely had its challenges and mishaps. My initial plans for how I was going to build it changed halfway through, and that left me with a couple ways to attach the box lid, and bottom.

I could've using a rabbeting bit at the router table and inset a panel that way, but felt the rounded edges, and chance for this figured maple to get caught was too risky at this stage in the build process. I opted to go the route that I did, knowing that the box is likely to move very little given its thickness of 1/2" and it width less than 4".

This box build is a donation, to the First Responders of a Recent Tragic Event that occurred here in the Northeast United States. If I am given permission, I will post a finished photo, after the engraving has been completed over on Instagram if you are interested in seeing that.

The ideal way to attach the top and bottom panels, would've been to rabbet out a pocket and let the panels float inside. This would've needed to be done prior to the initial dovetail glue up, and it was late in the day and that piece skipped my mind until the morning.
