TFTC Guides: Graphene OS + Pixel 3a Full Install Process Using Ubuntu
In this guide, I will walk you through the full install process of Graphene OS on a Pixel 3a using Ubuntu linux. Graphene is a privacy focused version of android that has all google services removed.
**Disclaimers**
- Please be cautious to follow all the steps properly. Proceed at your own risk.
- Your Pixel must be an unlocked variant, Verizon branded Pixels are NOT compatible.
- This process will wipe the phone, please make sure you have important data backed up before proceeding.
- Unfortunately this does not work with a live usb version of ubuntu, you need a full ubuntu installation. If your only machine is a mac, you will need to dual boot.
Necessary items:
- Computer running Ubuntu
- Unlocked Pixel phone
- USB C cable
We will be using the steps outlined in the Graphene OS install guide found here: https://grapheneos.org/install

Full list of the steps followed in the video below:
- Go through initial phone setup.
- Check for updates and make sure it is updated fully.
- Enable developer options and then enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.
- Download the latest version of the android sdk here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
- Extract the zip file to your downloads folder
- Open Terminal.
- $ sudo cp -r ~/Downloads/platform-tools/fastboot /usr/local/bin
- Connect your phone to your computer and enter fastboot mode by holding down the volume down and power button while device is off.
- Open Terminal.
- $ sudo fastboot flashing unlock
- Download the release specific to your phone here: https://grapheneos.org/releases
- Extract the zip file to your downloads folder.
- Open Terminal.
- $ cd ~/Downloads
- $ cd sargo-qq2a.200305.002/
- $ sudo ./flash-all.sh
- Wait for process to finish.
- Use power button to reboot phone.
- Turn off phone and enter fastboot mode by holding down the volume down and power button while device is off.
- Open Terminal.
- $ sudo fastboot flashing lock

You now have Graphene OS running on your Pixel. Future updates can be downloaded directly on your phone, similar to how regular android updates work.
