How this community is fighting back against intense floods

Grace is one of the youth trainers for Habitat for Humanity. In the long-established informal
settlement where she lives with her family, the homes are vulnerable to the effects of extreme weather – strong winds and drought followed by floods in particular – which are intensifying as our planet warms.

She joined Habitat’s volunteer network so she could create a better future for her daughter and help other families in her neighbourhood. Alongside the other staff and volunteers, Grace has been trained to share technical information and life-changing ideas with her community and she’s proud that she’s helping to strengthen its resilience against the winds and floods – floods that are intensifying each year and leave a path of destruction in their wake.
