African Birds of Prey Scavenge Dead Kudu | Wildlife in 360 VR Time-lapse

Birds of prey at a waterhole in Zimbabwe take over a recently killed kudu, initiating a feeding frenzy. Vultures, Yellow-billed kites, Tawny eagles, Marabou storks, and Pied crows all squawk, squabble, and fight to get in on the feast. At first, they are tentative, but competition gets stiff as they start eating the guts and other soft tissues.

A female Greater kudu weighs between 250 and 450 pounds, so a dead one can feed a multitude of birds and still have enough meat remaining for the hyenas that returned at dark and devoured the remains, including the bones. Scavengers play a critical clean-up role in savanna ecosystems.

Filmed in 5K.
