Wooden Boats on the River Murray

The 2014 150yr celebration at Chowilla Station brought together wooden boats from all parts of the Murray. Many travelled from the Lower Murray towns of Mannum and Murray Bridge, and as far as Goolwa on the lower lakes.

As they travelled upstream, a flotilla formed up and brought together wooden boat enthusiasts to swap yarns and share the good times.

Most boats took 10 days to travel to Chowilla, representing many tons of firewood for the paddle steamers Marion and Oscar W. Our cameraman joined the boats for the first 5 days and recorded some wonderful images of wooden boats in action.
