Ukraine: Thousands in Kiev march in Immortal Regiment to mark V-Day

Thousands participated in the Immortal Regiment march in Kiev on Wednesday, to mark the 73rd anniversary of the Soviet Victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Participants carried portraits of those killed in the Second World War. The procession went from Arsenalna to Glory Square, where people laid flowers.

"Today this is a great holiday for us, veterans. It's the biggest holiday in the year and in the world and we are celebrating it here," said one war veteran.

Bessmertny Polk (Immortal Regiment) marches are scheduled in dozens of cities across the globe to mark the anniversary of what is known in the former Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War. Campaign participants march through the central streets of their cities carrying portraits of their relatives or unknown veterans of the war.
