STEPPIN’ OUT :: Guitar Lesson 2 of 9 :: Eric Clapton :: Bluesbreakers :: John Mayall

On to the second lesson for Eric Clapton’s blistering 1966 version of ‘Steppin’ Out’, as performed on the classic album, ‘Blues Breakers : John Mayall with Eric Clapton’.

Also known as the ‘Beano’ album, because of Eric’s being seen on the cover reading a coy of the famous comic, this is the album that changed the face of electric guitar playing forever.

Stepping’ Out is one of two fabulous instrumentals on the album, the other being ‘Hideaway’, for which you will also find a series of ‘My Blues Guitar’ instruction videos.

In this lesson, we are into the second verse. We’ve just finished playing the intro section and we’re off with the lead guitar. This is Eric at his Bluesbreakers best, a masterclass in string-bending, vibrato and timing.

I hope you enjoy the video and get something from it. For more detailed tutorials like this, consider hitting the SUBSCRIBE button and also the ‘bell’ alert icon, which will mean you get to see new videos as soon as they go up, and you won’t miss a thing!

Thanks for watching.

Good luck with your playing!

Cheers,
Mark
