Synthetic Nature is Antoine Mathieu's entrancing debut album as Tonito Yama. In an epoch of all-embracing 'simulation' or 'hyperreality', a world where it's no longer possible to distinguish truth from falsehood, fact from fiction, apprehension from delusion. Is it virtually real or really virtual ?

« Synthetic Nature is born out of the desire to lose track between synthetic and natural, real and virtual, analog and digital. It's likewise inspired by the documentary Synthetic Pleasures, released in the mid 90s, when the outlook on the virtual and synthetic was still quite new.

If virtuality isn't the otherness of reality, but rather conceals previously unexpected potential, the virtual is envisaged then like the actual power of reality. And what if the massive development of this 'virtual' reality makes us discover that the reality in which we live has always been virtual.

This sentiment is even more increased in music that hides its matter in the air, like a vaporous prestidigitation. In this loss of cues, Tonito Yama trains the listeners into a maze of sound landscapes, edified and abandoned, sometimes glitched or psychedelic, at times sensible, but always fantasized. »
