With either of these methods you’ll be able to use your pro camera just as easily as the built in webcam on your laptop. It doesn’t matter if youre setting up a live stream in OBS, a zoom call or FaceTime, once youre connected, your computer will just see your camera as a video source and it should appear like a webcam in the dropdown menus.

Method 1: The first way is the best and most universal way - but also the more expensive way. It will also allow you to use a full 4k picture so you can do things like record directly to your computer rather than to a memory card if youre making videos, for instance like maybe like this one youre watching now, and your in the same room as your computer.

Unfortunately, this method costs some money - but then again, so did your camera and this will be WAY less than that.. You’re going to need to get your hands on a little device called an Elgato Cam Link 4k. Looks like this. Its a little over a hundred bucks, but once you’ve got it - it makes this so simple. You literally plug one end into your computer with a USB 3 or better connection, and the other end into your camera, with an HDMI cable and thats it! DIfferent cameras have different types of HDMI output ports. My Sony a6600 has an HDMI Micro port while my Nikon D850 has an HDMI mini, so make sure you buy the right cord with the thing. But with this Cam Link, you dont need any additional software or setup, it somehow makes your computer think your HDMI source is a webcam, so you can just turn on your camera, and then open Zoom and it’ll work!

Method 2: This method only works with Sony Mirrorless cameras and for some reason for ME it only wants to recognize Zoom and OBS on my Mac, it doesn’t see FaceTime or Skype - it works pretty flawlessly on my windows PC. But you dont need to spend any extra money to make it work (if you already have a sony camera). It produces a slightly worse picture quality but on the upside - its sending power to your camera so presumably it could stay on forever! Plus, in zoom calls, your picture us usually small, so even though you cant get that 4k resolution, it still looks better than every webcam ever made ever.

Go search for Sony Imaging Edge Webcam Software - download that, and install it - restart your computer and now when you open Zoom and go to choose your camera or open OBS and make a new video source you should see an option for (Sony Camera, Imaging Edge) on pulldown menus.
Add a little bit of lighting, and something like this 30mm 1.4 Sigma lens - WHAMO, your zoom square or little twitch streaming selfie box looks like a fucking netflix documentary interview!
