Barnsley Canal Walk | Wakefield, West Yorkshire (Vlog #61)

A walk along the disused Barnsley Canal from Cold Hiendley to Waterton Park Hotel at Walton, Wakefield. The canal opened in 1799 and closed around 1946 and was used to transport coal and other goods between Barnsley and Wakefield.

The canal was 14.5 miles long and had 15 locks. Although many sections of the canal have been filled, there are still many stretches − like the one at Walton − that retain many of the similarities and features of a working canal. If you get a chance to see this canal, then do so. It is well worth it.
