Wachuma (San Pedro) ceremony

This Ancestral ritual is one of the lesser known nowadays in the Andes. The Wachuma ceremony, also known as San Pedro, is directed by an Andean priest or Medicine Man. Before the ceremony, the medicine man prepares this medicine, accompanied with prayers and melodies from an array of native instruments. The best of prayers and intentions become part of this medicine for those who will arrive to the ceremony and participate in this sacred encounter.

Generally this ceremony is held in secluded spaces - however, it can be realized in any type of open space, according to the medicine man. Often times this ceremony is held in sacred spaces or ancient temples. The medicine man is responsable for initiating the ceremony, opening up sacred space by calling in his guides and allies - the ancestral spirits of Mother Earth and his Mountain deities. Throughout the ceremony, he continues keep a watchful eye with different songs, whistles and musicial instruments to direct the ceremony and those present during the process with the medicine.
