Time-saving Input Options | Discover Dorico with John Barron

In this session (using Dorico Pro v3.0.10) we looked at lots of ways you can enter and edit notes and other items. It might not sound interesting but there are a lot of options that can really save you time if you know them all - so keep watching!

0:00 - Intro
5:16 - Turning off the ghost note for new projects (and using the select arrow) - also see https://blog.dorico.com/2019/07/tip-the-select-button/
7:12 - play notes during note input and selection & play all notes in chord when any is selected
9:00 - pinch and zoom and 'H' for the hand tool or marquee selection
10:45 - work in Galley view
12:15 - Shift + N and Esc as well as Enter for the caret on/off
13:00 - navigating with arrow keys and Cmd/Ctrl
13:40 - entering notes (no rests) and octave shifts
14:19 - shortcuts / key commands for entering notes 'above' or 'below' current selection
15:35 - space bar to move along the rhythm grid during note input
16:00 - shortcut for changing the rhythm grid resolution
16:45 - entering slurs (various options)
19:40 - diatonic and chromatic note editing shortcuts
20:00 - extending notes along the rhythm grid (no more entering ties!) with Alt + Shift + right arrow
20:20 - 'getting started' guide but using other options
22:18 - editing notes as a rhythmic 'push' into the bar using Alt + arrows and Alt + Shift + arrows
23:45 - multiple slurs during note input
26:00 - selections using the keyboard (Shift; Ctrl/Cmd + Shift; Select More)
30:50 - copy/pasting notes and meter
31:34 - tied notes - editing options, dynamics on long tied notes and un-tieing specific notes
34:35 - articulations in tie chains
39:00 - triplets / tuplets
41:28 - Intervals popover for over/below and also 'top' and 'bottom' interval options
46:15 - Insert mode to change durations during composition process
47:15 - 'lock duration' to only change pitches and leave durations intact (similar to re-input pitches)
48:00 - live midi input options - slowing the tempo during recording
48:55 - change metronome pitched beep to click

51:00 - changing voices with shortcuts
53:55 - copying chord symbols using Select More
1:00:00 - adjusting the MIDI input latency compensation for live midi input / recording
1:00:58 - reset playback overrides
