I explain why Shirley Meng and her Lab are so special and their relationship to Maxwell Technologies.

Shirley Meng's Labratory for Energy Storage and Conversion (LESC) specialises in characterisation and modelling of battery cells. Characterisation and getting a view of what's actually going on inside of cells through chemical analysis and x-ray defraction. Modelling use using the properties of materials to predict which materials (out of thousands) are good candidates to be tested.

This is turning changing the battery from a black box to something that we can understand and predict it functions through more accurate models. Shirley's work will significantly speed the development of battery technology.
