5X Racing Mazda Miata Drop Floorpan Kit Install: Part 1 - Removing the original floorpan

Our Mazda Miata Drop Floorpan Kit for 1990-2005 NA and NB models is designed to drop the entire seating area of the drivers side an inch and a half lower than the original floorpan height. This is needed for Miatas that have been turned into racecars and the drivers are a bit too tall or wide to be comfortable in the car. The 1 1/2" difference is MAJOR, and the other benefit is that it allows you to install almost any racing seat into the Miata without the normal fuss that is usually part of this process.

In this video, we show you our process in removing the original floorpan and clearing the way for the drop floorpan. The tools we used were a Sawzall reciprocating saw, a grinder with a metal cutting disk, hammer, body dollies, angle die grinder with sanding disk, drill with 3/16" bit, wooden ruler, pry bar, and tin snips. A welder is of course needed to finalize the install and you might need to be a little creative with some spare wood to spread the pan to close some gaps at the end.

The process we used is a guideline on how we did it, but we understand that the process you might need to use could be a little different based on the layout and shape of your floorpan. We imagine there are slight differences in the floorpans of Miatas that range from 1990-2005. Use your best judgement and hopefully our method provides insight as to how your install should go. We are here for you if you have any questions along the way. Just send over an email at team@5xracing.com and we'll give you our best advice.
