ILO's handicrafts production workshop strengthens women-led enterprises and MSMEs in Afghanistan

In Herat province, Afghanistan, the ILO’s DG Crisis Response Initiative is helping crisis-affected communities rebuild livelihoods, restore essential infrastructure, and strengthen local economies through an integrated Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus approach.

By combining employment-intensive infrastructure rehabilitation with entrepreneurship and enterprise development support, the initiative created immediate decent work opportunities for vulnerable women and men, strengthened women-led enterprises and MSMEs, and improved access to essential community services.

The programme was implemented in partnership with Herat Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HWCCI), Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), the United NationsDevelopment Programme (UNDP), and communities, demonstrating how decent work, local economic recovery, and social dialogue can contribute to resilience, social cohesion, and sustainable peace.
