🧠 Youth Hockey IQ Hack: Baiting the Pass with Your Stick 🎣

🧠 Youth Hockey IQ Hack: Baiting the Pass with Your Stick 🎣

Young players, want to steal pucks like the pros without even throwing a big hit? This is one of the smartest defensive tricks in the game.
Hold your stick in one direction (or even pull it back slightly) so the passer thinks that lane is wide open. You’re baiting them - making them commit to a pass they think is safe.
Then… SNAP! As soon as they release the puck, quickly slide your stick into the lane to shut it down or intercept it clean.

Why it works: It uses deception + anticipation. You’re not just blocking - you’re reading the passer’s eyes and shoulders, forcing them into a mistake, and turning defense into an instant breakout or rush.

Pro Tips for Youth Players:

Keep your stick blade on the ice at all times (this is non-negotiable!)
Stay patient - don’t reach early or they’ll see it coming.
Practice in small-area games or 2v2/3v3 drills so you get reps reading passes in tight space.

Master this move and you’ll start creating turnovers that win games. Hockey isn’t just speed and strength - it’s hockey IQ!
