How To Make Jewelry: How To Make A Tassel Necklace

Learn to make a tassel necklace using a skein of embroidery floss! Tassels are very trendy and we love how easy they are to wear.

This pretty tassel necklace is easy to make and fast too! For tools, you will need two basic wirework jewelry tools: wire cutters and round-nose pliers.

Here are the step-by-step instructions to make this tassel necklace:

Materials
1 Skein of embroidery floss (keep the skein in the wrappers), blue
3” worth of seed beads, size 11/0 in color to match embroidery floss
Sewing thread to match the embroidery floss
Beading needle (thin enough to go through the seed beads)
24-inch length cable chain, ours is “gold”
26-gauge brass wire
Large bead cap, “gold”
Jump ring, “gold”

Tools
Wire cutters
Chain-nose pliers
Scissors

Steps
1. Cut a 3” piece of brass wire and bend it into a hairpin. Fold the skein of embroidery floss in half and slide the hairpin into the fold.
2. Twist the ends of the wire together and slide this through the bead cap. Poke the ends up through the jump ring. Then wrap the ends of the wire back around the neck of the wire twice and then trim the ends with the wire cutters. Remove the paper wrappers from the skein. Cut the bottom of the tassel and trim to make the ends nice and even.
3. Cut an 8” piece of sewing thread. Thread the beading needle, double the thread over, and knot the end. Sew through the embroidery floss at the top of the tassel, then back through the tassel. Poke the needle through the loop at the end of the knotted thread. Slide on seed beads until you have 3 inches of beads. Wrap around the top of the tassel then sew through top of tassel going through a seed bead on each side to secure. Tie a knot. Trim.
4. Open the jump ring. Slide the last loop of each end of the chain into the open jump ring. Close the jump ring.
