BRITS hoping to flee Gaza across the lifeline Rafah border crossing have reported been turned away by authorities.

Hundreds of desperate foreign nationals managed to pour into Egypt across the southern checkpoint, which opened on Thursday for the first time since the deadly October 7 attacks.

It came as Hamas made a chilling threat new threat to hostages and Israel announced that 15 IDF personnel had been killed in 24 hours.

The Rafah crossing, the only route out of Gaza not controlled by Israel, was opened in a crucial move to allow 500 trapped foreigners to escape the hellish battleground.

At least 320 foreign passport holders used the crossing to evacuate Gaza today, three Egyptian security sources and a Palestinian official said.

It is currently unknown whether there were any Brits among those who managed to flee.

But trapped Brits who rushed to the border hoping to escape Gaza reported being told that UK nationals could not cross the border today.

Foreign nationals need to check their names on a list drawn by Israel and Egypt to see whether they are eligible to cross the border.

Schoolteacher Zaynab al Wandawi, from Manchester, who travelled to Gaza with her family days before the October 7 attack told Sky News she is now stuck and "running out of supplies."

Speaking on the phone near the border crossing, she said: "We went to the border, they told us that British passport holders and American passport holders will not be let through yet.

"They said to try again tomorrow."

Her distressed mum Lalah Ali Faten, told the Telegraph her daughter is “distraught” and “feeling abandoned by the British Government.”

Another Brit Mohammed Ghalayini, 44, told the newspaper he went to the border but there was “no hope for me getting through today and I went back”.

UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said there are "no certainties" regarding British nationals escaping from Gaza.

Mr Cleverly said, "everything is difficult and uncertain and we need to be realistic about that".

"We've spoken extensively with Egypt and of course with Israel and through intermediaries [and] we have sent messages to Hamas," he added.

"It's not easy and there are no certainties, but we will not rest until we have done what we can to help the British nationals in Gaza."
