First Godfather of MMA who modernized Jiu Jitsu - Dr. Moses Powell

Dr. Moses Powell, the earliest pioneer who taught Ron Van Clief, George Cofield, Duncan Powell and Wesley Snipes.

He was a member of both the Black Belt Hall of Fame and the World Karate Hall of Fame.

One of the first Instructors to teach the DEA, FBI, and the Secret Service in martial arts.

A key influencer since 1954, he opened his school by 1960.

His own system of 'Self Defense Complete' was renamed to Modern Jiu Jitsu in 1964. By 1968, evolved his fighting system of Self Defense Sanuces in its most basic form means survival through simplicity.

Between 1967 and 1968, Dr. Powell pioneered his craft by traveling overseas to the Caribbean. There, he introduced Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu to the island of Jamaica and Trinidad and to Bermuda in the early 1970’s.

1971 - The first martial artist invited to demonstrate martial arts at the United Nations

1972 - The Benin Empire of West Africa awarded him the International Benin Award.

1977 - Inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame
