Why this Video is Important?

Indexing is one of the most important concepts in Manufacturing Engineering. This video will give the idea about the two types of indexing namely simple and differential indexing. It will give an idea about why the different types of indexing are required to divide a certain job into equal divisions.

Real Life Applications:

Indexing is a process to divide the circumference of a given job into equally spaced divisions. Indexing is used in cutting gear teeth, cutting splines, milling grooves in reamers, spacing holes on a circle, etc.

Explanation:

Indexing is used to divide a given job in equally spaced divisions. In case of simple indexing the indexing crank and the job are connected by means of a worm and worm wheel with a gear ratio 40. The indexing crank is connected to the worm and the job is mounted on the worm wheel which is rotated by rotating the crank by a required amount. In some cases it is not possible to divide a certain job into equal divisions by means of simple indexing. Therefore, differential indexing is used in this case.
