Embroidery Patches vs Woven Patches

We are back another video. This time, we are introducing the differences between embroidery patch and woven patch.

Embroidery Patches are made with fabric backing and thicker threads. Those thicker threads are visible on the surface. And because the threads are thick, embroidery patches cannot really achieve tiny details or complex designs. But if you are looking for a very classic and vintage look, embroidery patches will be your best choice.

Woven patches are made with threads only, and because the threads are very thin, it can demonstrate complex and tiny details. So if you look at the patch surface, you can see that there are multiple colours and threads are quite thin.

There are two main border types for patches, merrow border and heat cut border.
Merrow border is done by wrapping threads around patches.
It is best used for designs with regular shapes like circle and square.

Heat cut border is done by a hot knife or a laser machine, and it’s gonna cut along the shape of your design, so it is suggested for designs with complex shapes.

And there are three backings for patches.
This is what a patch without any backing looks like. And you can choose to add paper backing, so it would look like this. This one is with iron-on backing. And this is with velcro.

The backing type depends on the purpose of your patches, so you can choose what kind of backing you want for your patch.
