Cabin In The Woods
When I was a child, my family spent time on the weekends at "The Farm". This was 23 acres in Mid Missouri where us kids could be kids...run, play, discover nature, build tree houses, etc.
I always wanted to build a log cabin at the Farm, with trees harvested from the property.
Fast forward to 2015, when I purchased the property from my mother. My family and I started to improve the property, after decades of abandonment. We camped, but I still wanted that log cabin.
The issue, at the time, was that I thought it would take 8+ years to season logs I had felled on the property, to build that cabin. So my better half and I compromised and decided to build a traditional "Stick Frame" cabin.
This slideshow is our journey from beginning to end. It took us about 10 months, working on available weekends, to build a cabin into something "livable".
It is wired for electricity, though no plumbing. (More on that later) We use a combination of gas generators and solar arrays to generate power for the cabin. We may eventually have electricity run to the property, but for now we are comfortable being "off grid" on our weekend excursions.
Hope you enjoy our journey as much as we had building the cabin.
