What Happened to the Old Russian Flag?

The Russian Flag, Флаг Росси́и in Russian, is one of many red-white-blue tricolours seen in Europe, and was the original flag to display them as "Pan-Slavic" colours. This flag has an interesting history, dating back to the reign of Peter Great and Russia's great struggle against Sweden, flying over the victorious regiments at Poltava. It's ultimate origin lies in the Dutch Republic of the 17th Century and their mastery in the field of shipbuilding that Peter the Great would take back to Russia. There is of course another symbol that was associated with Russia and this is the double-headed eagle whose origins are even older and go back to the Roman and Byzantine empires, the Viking Rus, and Medieval Russia.
