The word poltergeist - which has its origin in Germanic - and derives from the word poltern, to make sound - and Geist - a ghost or a spirit. It literally translates to noisy ghost, or loud spirit. In folklore a poltergeist is a spirit responsible for disturbances in the physical world - capable of pinching, biting and hitting - and responsible for levitating objects and knocking on doors. So troublesome are these spirits that alleged manifestations have occurred all across the planet - pretty much every country has a folklore tale involving a poltergeist, the earliest of which date back to the 1st century AD. With the rise of technology and the democratization of entertainment via YouTube - a lot of this alleged footage has surfaced to a mass audience - and we're going to take a look.
