Church of the Holy Trinity in Mikulince (Mykulyntsi)

🇵🇱 Kościół Św. Trójcy w Mikulińcach
🇺🇦 Костел Пресвятої Трійці у Микулинцях

Construction period: 1761 - 1779.

Founder: Polish noblewoman Ludwika Potocka, the widow of Grand Crown Hetman of the Kingdom of Poland Jozef Potocki.

Historical note:

At the beginning of the 17th century a wooden church existed in Mikulince (Mykulyntsi, currently in Ukraine). In the 18th century, the widow of Hetman Jozef Potocki, Ludwika Potocka, decided to build an impressive stone church elsewhere in the settlement. The cornerstone was laid in 1761 and the church was consecrated in 1779. The author of the project was probably August Moszynski, who was the husband of the founder's granddaughter. Interestingly, preserved sketches show that the final shape of the church is slightly different from the original intentions. It is likely that the architect succumbed to the founder, who had more conservative tastes.

The three-nave church features lower parts built of stone, while the upper parts of the walls were made of brick.

After WW2 and the annexation by the Soviet Union of almost half of Poland's pre-war territory, the closed and abandoned church gradually deteriorated. After the collapse of the USSR, it was returned to the Roman Catholic Church Archdiocese of Lviv.

The “PL-UA. History by drone” project consists of 100 short film productions depicting architectural monuments that were created in the period of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The series of short documentary films were screened in Ukraine. A Polish-Ukrainian team consisting of historians, journalists, writers, non-governmental organisations and youth joined forces to create the films. Project was financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
