Ex-MI6 chief: 'A chaotic Afghanistan is going to be more dangerous' for the west

Ex-MI6 chief Sir Alex Younger says the threat from terrorist groups will grow if allies turn their back on Afghanistan.

He said it would be an “enormous mistake” to neglect the country as happened back in 1989 when a previous intervention by the former Soviet Union ended.

Mr Younger left the service in 2020 after six years, making him one of the longest-serving MI6 chief in the past 50 years.
