The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion was a unique U.S. Army unit and it had the distinction of being the only all-African American, all-female unit sent overseas during World War II. After their success in England, the Six Triple Eight moved to France, where they continued their work until the last members of the unit returned to the United States in February 1946. And while the work was taxing and racism was overwhelming… as an all-Black, female battalion, they understood the significance of their presence and displayed exemplary character under pressure.
