Marty Center Events | Race for Revival with Helen Jin Kim, Wonhee Anne Joh, and Angie Heo
Please join us for a discussion about race, religion, and empire with Helen Jin Kim, author of "Race for Revival: How Cold War South Korea Shaped the American Evangelical Empire," and featured panelists Wonhee Anne Joh, Curtis Evans, and Angie Heo.
How does a transpacific perspective on religion change how we understand the racial and imperial dynamics of faith, war, and inequality? What untold stories and unseen characters become more visible? Which questions and lines of critique are made possible? In dialogue with a theologian, historian, and anthropologist, Helen Jin Kim will elaborate on how Cold War South Korea shaped the American evangelical empire. This roundtable event aims to push the interdisciplinary conversation on evangelicalism’s rise (and fall) toward constructive and critical approaches to race, religion, and empire worldwide.
This event was co-sponsored by the University of Chicago Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture.
