4K | The last Orangutans of Sumatra

The orangutans depicted in this video were filmed at the Gunug Leuser National Park in northern Sumatra. Wild orangutans can only be found in the tropical rain forests of Indonesia on Sumatra and Borneo. The word orangutan is derived from the Malay words orang, meaning "person", and hutan, meaning "forest", thus "forest person". They belong to the most intelligent primates on the planet. The remaining orangutans are critically endangered. Habitat loss in the form of deforestation and palm oil plantations as well as poaching are posing a serious threat to their existence. Therefore orangutans are facing an increasing risk of extinction.
