USA TODAY sports columnist Christine Brennan talks about the relationship between athletes and activism and how they are using their fame to shine a spotlight on social movements.
The Freedom Forum exhibit, “Fair Play: Athletes Speak, Assemble, Petition for Freedom,” is currently on display at Reagan National and Dulles International airports. The exhibit tells the stories of athletes using their First Amendment freedoms to make life’s playing field more even for all.
Brennan, who joined USA TODAY in 1997, is also a commentator for ABC News, PBS NewsHour and National Public Radio. She is the best-selling author of seven books.
First Five Now is a Freedom Forum conversation that explores topical issues and features current newsmakers who are using the five freedoms of the First Amendment to guide their work.
