★ 4K Rare cab ride 🇨🇭Muttenz - 🇩🇪Weil am Rhein via Basel SBB with freight [06.2020]

Due to construction work on the direct connection between the Basel marshalling yard in Muttenz and Weil am Rhein in Germany, for a number of weekends freight traffic has been diverted via Basel SBB (passenger station), where a change of direction is necessary.
To increase speed and capacity, a locomotive is placed on each end of the train between Weil & Muttenz.
In this video, we'll be seeing 2 sections of track rarely used by trains:
1. The turning loop from Weil passenger station to Basel Bad marshalling yard.
2. The underpass connecting tracks 1-4 of Basel SBB with Basel GB (freight yard).

The 2nd is mainly for shunting trains into place from the freight yard without having to cross the main line - and also for access to the siding of the Swiss Post.

We start off in Muttenz, and take our locomotive to Basel SBB and over to Weil in Germany, in order to accompany a train back to Switzerland from the rear. We spend about an hour in Basel due to a technical problem with the locomotive, which was solved by a reset.

From Weil we take the turning loop over to the back of our train in the Basel Bad marshalling yard. After coupling and checking the brakes (and waiting a while for the signal) we set off for Basel at the back of our train - without pushing.
At Basel SBB, it's our turn, as we drive the last stretch to Muttenz, where the bank locomotive will be uncoupled and the train continues towards Italy.
