दरसल ये घटना 4 सितम्बर 1954 को santiago एयरलाइन की flight EWA 513 के साथ घटी थी....... ये घटना इतनी डरावनी और रहस्यमयी थी कि इस घटना को दुनिया के सामने आने से पूरी तरह रोका गया लेकिन बावजूद इसके ये खबर आग की तरह पूरी दुनिया में फ़ैल गई....... 4 सितम्बर 1954 को santiago एयरलाइन की flight EWA 513 ने वेस्ट जर्मनी के एक एअरपोर्ट से 52 लोगो के साथ पोर्टो एलेग्रे
ब्राज़ील के लिए उड़ान भरी ।.....शुरु मे सब कुछ सही जा रहा था लेकिन कुछ ही घंटो बाद फ्लाइट का कांटेक्ट कण्ट्रोल रूम से टूट गया ....... कण्ट्रोल रूम से कोई भी व्यक्ति ना तो पायलट के संपर्क में था और ना ही कोई पायलट किसी को संपर्क कर पाने में सफल हो रहे थे...... कण्ट्रोल स्टेशन ने फ्लाइट के पायलेट से भी संपर्क करने की पूरी कोशिश की लेकिन कुछ भी हाथ नहीं लगा. काफी प्रयासो अौर search opration के बाद
सबने यही सोचकर उम्मीद छोड़ दी कि इस फ्लाइट को शायद नीला आसमान निगल गया.
