Ibrahim Omer MP - First MP of African background in New Zealand

🎉 Congratulations to Ibrahim Omer MP on being elected to the Parliament of Aotearoa.

He is the first MP of African background in New Zealand.

Ibrahim Omer MP arrived in New Zealand as a refugee from Eritrea via Sudan in 2008.

He worked on minimum wage as a cleaner in a University.

He dared to dream.

Joined the Union, and started studying in the same university he cleans. And successfully earned a Political Science degree.

The incoming New Zealand Parliament is set to be the most inclusive ever, with increase in women, people of colour and LGBTQ+ members.

To put it into perspective a Young Queer Woman flipped a Nationals electorate for the Greens.

Labour won by a landslide in New Zealand. Along with the Greens, they gained extra seats in both New Zealand and the ACT (Canberra) elections over the weekend.

When you lead with love and unity, you sow love and unity. Congratulations 🎉 New Zealand, Congratulations 🎉 ACT.
