After all the events and different people's hands this guitar has been through in the past few months, the original seller of this guitar claims it is "Haunted." Now, we're not talking ghosts and goblins here... we're talking cursed with bad luck.

This guitar was for sale on eBay as one of the few, original gold hardware Les Paul Standards. I was interested in this one because the wine red finish was very unique and evil looking with the nice quilting action going on. I ended up not bidding on this one because the price just got to high for my tastes.

Flash forward a few weeks and I see this guitar relished on Reverb for $1200 higher. Now, that is how the cycle of guitars go - they go to auction where they sell for the market low (or even cheaper) and then they get sold by dealers at the market high. Nothing wrong with that - business is business. However, the new seller created a huge story up with this guitar. Once many people were suspicious of his story - he couldn't take the heat so he returned it to the original eBay seller by making up a false claim that it needed a refret.

The guitar was once again auctioned off by the original seller with the added information that it was returned because the bridge was non-original and it 'needed a refret.' Seeing that this guitar was returned for a fraudulent reason made me upset. The seller simply returned it because no-one believed his made up story that would make him $1000. I ended up winning this auction because I wanted to make this video.

However, THIS time when I got the guitar - I found all parts on this guitar besides the actual pickups, gold bonnets and pots have been replaced. That's a real shame, but it was nothing irreversible. Then, I sighted the neck to find it had a twist in it... and then the truss rod was maxed out... and THEN the pancake body was separating a little bit by the output jack. The guitar was a complete basket case on paper... but played pretty-well all things considered.

I reached out to the seller who was a complete professional and was quick to offer a resolution. I offered to let him re-run the auction and I'd just send it to the new owner, but he said this guitar was haunted and that he would rather just take my 'buy-out' offer on it.

In the end... all the stories made up about this guitar were lies. It is a really cool looking Les Paul that plays decent (all things considered) and has a good sound. These structural issues keep the price down for someone that can't afford a normal $2500 standard.
