Taiwanese blacksmith Wu Tseng-dong has forged a career fashioning kitchen knives from artillery shells that forces from the Chinese mainland fired at his home on Quemoy. The tiny Taiwan-controlled island chain also known as Kinmen is only about 3.2km (2mi) from the mainland. From 1958 until the late 1970s, it was frequently shelled by the People’s Liberation Army. On October 21, 2020, Wu showed some of his handiwork from his blacksmith shop as he recalled his experience with decades of bombardment.
